The women's shelters are helping abused women and their children to a future without violence.

Challenge
On average, one woman is killed every month by her partner. Every year, 70 000 women are subjected to physical or psychological violence by their current or former partner, and around 30 000 children are witnesses.
Task
The National Organisation of Women's Shelters (LOKK) represents 52 women's shelters, 500 employees and more than 1500 volunteers. LOKK works to ensure that all women who are victims of violence and their children are entitled to rapid 360-degree help that embraces holistically. LOKK supports what is crucial for the individual woman to move forward – regardless of their life situation and whether you live in Copenhagen, Rønne or Holstebro. For many women, the journey to a secure future begins here.
Results
LOKK has carried out a professionalization process, been working on a new strategy of partnerships, profiling and policy and a communication plan for the LOKK's secretariat and Board of Directors.
The work has ensured better conditions and help for all battered women and their children, a reduction in the number of battered women and the use of LOKK's evidence-based best practice throughout the Nordic region.
Since November 2019, NEXTSTEP has served as a close adviser and sparring partner for the Board and management.

"A few years ago, the National Organization of Women's Shelters (LOKK) needed a big u-turn. The help we have received from NEXTSTEP has been crucial to us being in a completely different place today than we were a year and a half ago. Nextstep has always been very well prepared and has always been moving forward."
Karin Gaardsted Chairman of the National Organisation of Women's Shelters
